SAMS established the first 4 AFM (Advanced Fatigue Management) programs in South Australia in November 2010 and we have established many BFM and even Standard Hours programs for operators. Our programs are so well regarded by the authorities and Auditors that they are processed more quickly because we have worked closely with the authorities in developing our programs and they are confident in and trust our work.
Fatigue Management Accreditation Programs (Standard, BFM and AFM) - Proven Programs
Heavy Vehicle drivers are limited to working a maximum of 12 hours in a 24hr period under the Fatigue Management Regulation - this is the Standard Hrs Option Rule.
If drivers can NOT always complete their work within 12 hrs then they MUST operate under either of the two following Fatigue Management Hours Options:
Basic Fatigue Management (BFM) - up to 14 hrs in a 24hr period; or
Advanced Fatigue Management (AFM) - up to 16 hrs in a 24hr period
To utiise the greater hours and felxibility of the BFM and AFM Hrs Options, the truck operator must be formally accredited under the BFM/AFM scheme(s) and the driver(s) must be formally trained under the TLIF1007C course AND they must be formally inducted into the operator's Accreditation Program. For further details of the Fatigue Management laws go to
Fatigue Management & Speed Compliance laws.
SAMS is a leader in providing effective and practical Fatigue Management Accreditation Programs for BFM and AFM. We also provide a Strandard Hrs Fatigue Management Program which helps ensure that Standard Hrs operators, as well as BFM and AFM operators, comply with the law and have a Reasonable Steps Defence.
We provide the fatigue Management Programs as either CORE programs, that the client then modifies to suit their needs, or we provide the COMPLETE program which we tailor to meet the client's needs and operation. This is the most cost-effective option, as we are expert in this and can do it far more quickly and efficiently.
We can merge our Fatigue Management programs with NHVAS Mass/Maintenance programs and/or with OH&S programs and we can incorporate a Speed Policy as well. We provide major discounts for multiple combined programs. Our programs are well regarded by Auditors and the Transport Agencies.
Speed Policy - Proven Speed Compliance Policy
All Truck operators are required under the Speed Compliance Regulations to have a documented Speed Compliance Policy. A $10,000 fine applies if you do not have a Speed Compliance policy, which must be more than a throw away statement. The SAMS Speed Policy covers the requirements of the law, without being too complex and is designed to be able to be merged effectively with either NHVAS Mass/Maintenance or Fatigue Management Programs.
Truck Operators that do not have a documnted Speed Compliance Policy are in breach of the law and face substantial fines - even if their drivers do not speed.
